As Director of Production & Fabrication, you will oversee the execution of the client’s vision, as identified in the approved scope of work, by effectively managing an amazing team of specialists in: Carpentry, Paint, Mica, Graphics, Fabric/Upholstery, Labor, Trucking, Procurement, Inventory, and Client Storage. A successful Director of Production and Fabrication collaborates successfully, exceeds client expectations, increases efficiencies, and boosts overall profitability. We’re looking for an individual with extensive experience in developing and maintaining strong systems, regulatory compliance, engineering methods, safety, security, housekeeping protocols, and new event construction processes as well as employee recruiting, training, and development.

 

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of the fabrication, installation, load out, and asset after-life (storage, disposal, etc.) for projects. This will be achieved with the assistance of team members working with you and/or under your direction.

• Collaborate with the Design Team to realize the client’s vision by offering the best construction methods, engineering, and mechanical design solutions for unique scenic elements and/or special effects.

• Collaborate with the Design Team to foster information flow and clarity of communications in the construction document completion process

• Review internal and external project drawing packages to ensure all specifications are accurate to meet the needs of our carpentry shop.

• Design shop and warehouse workflow, including layout and equipment needs.

• Schedule all production crew members for appropriate job functions, review weekly time sheets to manage crew hours in alignment with client budgets, verify crew certifications for equipment operation.

• Identify, specify, and procure high quality equipment, tools, and materials for builds and installations.

• Work with shop team to move builds through the purchase, fabrication, finish, load in, installation, and load out phases of multiple projects happening concurrently.

• Coordinate with outside vendors to facilitate the production of goods and assembly drawings for external items.

• Oversee assembly and dry fits to validate that Bombshell quality standards are met prior to final installation or shipping.

• Coordinate renting/scheduling vehicles and equipment as needed.

• Manage onsite installations either directly on site or through managing assigned leads.

• Work with Director of Operations on the organization of stored client assets, and the overseeing of safety protocols, proper OSHA practices, and any PPE needed for safe production,

• Provide employees with written goals, direct feedback, and the necessary resources to achieve the expectations of their position. Manage personnel issues in a timely manner.

 

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Production, Theatre Technology, or related.

• Minimum 20 years technical production experience.

• Experience in live theatre, events, or touring.

• Willingness to occasionally travel.

• Strong carpentry background and technical skills, experience in furniture building, interior design, or theatrical set construction. Understanding of commonly accepted rigging practices.

• General knowledge of A/V.

• Strong knowledge of mechanical lifts, on-site heavy equipment, power tools, fastening techniques, materials.

• Solid verbal communicator with good writing skills, keen ability to interact with clients and crew on all levels.

• Conducts business with high level of integrity.

• Efficient and flexible approach to meeting deadlines.

• Create, read, and interpret design drawings.

• Organized complex problem solver with multi-tasking skills and a great attention to detail.

• Growth mindset: personal dedication to the consistent expansion of knowledge, skills, and networking.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Skilled in computer use, Microsoft Office, and Vectorworks.

• Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
